The Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) have been graced by the maiden visit of the Mr. Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR) today. He was accompanied by Mr. Forhad Hossain Azad, MP, Hon’ble State Minister of MoWR, and Dr. A. K. M Shahabuddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Chairperson of the CEGIS Board of Trustees. They have been accorded warm floral welcome by Mr. Md. Motaleb Hossain Sarker, Executive Director (Acting), CEGIS and his management.
The Executive Director (Acting) briefed them about the ongoing initiatives, innovative research, and technical contributions in light of the vision, mission and mandates of the center. A key highlight of the visit was the presentation of a prototype digital approach devised for the monitoring of canal excavation and restoration projects. The proposed canal restoration initiative is recognized as a promising intervention aligned with the Government's recent priorities, with significant potential to improve drainage, conserve water resources, enhance biodiversity, and strengthen community resilience.
The visit highlighted the successful contributions of CEGIS in addressing complex water and environmental and climatic challenges across Bangladesh and beyond. Hon’ble Minister, MoWR and his entourage expressed their satisfaction with the organization's achievements and appreciated CEGIS’s continued efforts & contribution to the delivery of science-based solutions aimed at sustainable management of natural resources of the country. The management of CEGIS has the honor to express its sincere thanks and gratitude to the Hon’ble Minister, Hon’ble State Minister, and respected Secretary of MoWR for their valuable guidance, encouragement, and support to the center.
