Career Summary

Since 2025, Devjani Datta Payel has been working with the Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) as a Research Consultant in the Climate Change and Disaster Management Division. She has experience in the fields of water resources management, climate change risk, vulnerabilities, impacts assessment, hydrologic and hydrodynamic assessment, and modeling, GIS data analysis and preprocessing, and environmental impact assessment.

Ms. Devjani Datta Payel is proficient in an array of software, including ArcGIS, MATLAB, AUTOCAD, HEC-RAS, SWAT, SDSM and HEC-HMS. Her current project is called "Investing in climate change adaptation through agroecological landscape restoration: A nature-based solution for climate resilience."

During her academic tenure, she conducted research on the hydrological and morphological dynamics of the lower reach of the Sangu River, a hilly transboundary river, focusing on flood behavior and channel changes. She applied flood frequency analysis using the Gumbel method integrated with 1D–2D HEC-RAS modeling to develop flood inundation maps and identify vulnerable areas, along with proposing structural resilience measures. Her work also included multi-temporal analysis using DEMs and Landsat imagery in ArcGIS to assess erosion, accretion, and channel migration, as well as sediment transport modeling. In addition, she contributed to several academic projects on flood inundation mapping, rainfall-runoff modeling, and sediment transport analysis using HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS. Alongside her technical work, she developed strong leadership and organizational skills through roles such as General Secretary of Charcoal BUET Artists’ Society, Vice President of Badhan BUET Zone, and participation in professional training and internships.
